Ann Arbor Hardwood Floor Refinishing

floorbeforeafterI’m just in the process of having my old Ann Arbor home’s (the Ulrich Phillips House, an Emil Lorch design) very old hardwood floors refinished. I think these floors are as old as the house which makes them nearly 100 years old. The house had been a fraternity and Corntree Co-Op.

I can just imagine 35 years ago when someone from the co-op decided to refinish the floor, but had absolutely no skill except to rent a floor sander and give it a try… These floors were just about ruined.  There were deep grooves in the floor of various shapes indication the sander operator must have been high on something because he just let it sit there while it dug holes deep into the floors.

And the finish was extremely worn and lots of paint had spilled on the floor during various stages of white washing the walls.  I was having some touch up painting done by my awesome painter Miguel Cordova and he asked me if I would like to have my floors refinished.  Kinda wierd, but I had just discussed having them done with my fiancee.

I had taken a look at some place that would rehab an old floor and promised to cost less than any other hardwood floor refinishing service.  The finish they used was to be tolerable.  Hmmm.

I had Miguel give me a quote.  It was extremely reasonably and much less than these other guys.  He help me move my furniture, completely sanded the floor, fixed the damaged areas, stained to a color I like and put several coats of water based poly on it.  The water based poly was great because my birds and fish didn’t get any toxic exposure; me either.  Each coat dried in about two hours.

The floors look amazing!  The dining room now feels like a place you wouldn’t mind dropping some food and applying the five second rule. (Have kids? You know what I mean.)

So I am highly recommending Miguel Cordova to you if you have any hardwood floors that need refinishing in the Ann Arbor area.  He also will paint inside and out.  His phone number is 734 829-7586. Give him a call right now.
