The Ann Arbor Learning Community (AALC) is a public charter school authorized by Eastern Michigan University. The AALC is a non-profit school. They first enrolled students in the fall of 1998.
All Michigan students who are in grades K-8 are allowed to enrol and they will not be discriminated in any way. Since it is a public school, there is no charge for the tuition fee.
AALC currently houses five early primary (K-1) classrooms, three primary (2-3) classrooms, three intermediate (4-5) classrooms, and three middle school (6-8) classrooms.
AALC is working on Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) for every student by team team made up of teacher, student and parent. The ILP includes academic, social, behavioral, and/or enrichment goals to be pursued for the whole school year.
The Michigan State Standards and Benchmarks and Grade Level Content Expectation provide the basis for their curriculum. Thematic units, outdoor education, environmental education and the performing and visual arts are used to deliver the curriculum.
“All of our teachers are state certified and meet the “Highly Qualified” designation,” as can be seen on their website.
