Ann Arbor, MI — Exhibit at U-M Museum of Art will open soon and make its debut as it explores the relationshio between photograph and painting along the Normandy coast in France in the mid-9th century.
The title is “The Lens of Impressionism: Photography and Painting Along the Normandy Coast, 1850-1874.” It will be in Ann Arbor until Jan. 3 before transferring to the Dallas Museum of Art from Feb. 21 to May 23.
The work of painters such as Gustave Courbet, Edouard Manet, Claude Monet and Edgar Degas including the photographers Gustave Le Gray and Henri Le Secq are included in the exhibit.
Archives that are related to tourism in the region are also part of the exhibit. The photos, drawings and paintings on display include Representations of beach scenes, seascapes, fishing villages and resorts can be seen in the drawings and paintings.
Musee d’Orsay in Paris and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, or the National Library of France are kind enough to load some of the works from them.
There are lectures and musical performances that are being planned this fall in Ann Arbor as part of the exhibition.
