A special new scholarship was awarded to an Ann Arbor student in the person of Dr. Daylene Jack-Min Leong. Sh is in her second year residency at University of Michigan School of Dentistry. This new scholarship where she was the first awardee is Benson Duff Endowed Graduate Periodontics Scholarship.

The said scholarship will be able to help Dr. Leong in financing and completing her masters in periodontics.

It was in 1975 when Dr. Benson Duff (now deceased) got his bachelor’s biology degree in UM. He then went on to get a degree in dentistry 5 years later and masters in periodontics in 1988.

Dr. Duff worked in private practice and at the same time he acted as the associate of Michigan Periodontal Alumni Board and the Dean’s Faculty before he passed away in 2008.

His wife, Sheree, an associate dental dean set up the scholarship with a $60,000 donation. This was matched by the University of Michigan’s Donor Challenge Program which was able to raise more than a million dollars.

Dr. Leong has been in UM since July 2007 and she is just overwhelmed when she had been awarded the scholarship. She plans to complete her masters and become an expert in her chosen career.
