EPA Recognizes Ann Arbor’s Sustainable Energy Efforts
| No Comment

The sustainable energy efforts of Ann Arbor has not gone unnoticed as EPA recognized the city for what it has accomplished.
The Top 20 On-site Green Power Users List included Tree Town which generates almost 9 million kilowatt-hours of biogas, hydro and solar power every year. This is equivalent to 20 percent of its electricity use and 12.5 percent of energy for the whole operations in the municipality.
That was last year. This year, the city is expecting to bring in more from its operations. It is also entertaining the idea of purchasing another alternative energy in the later part of this year to aid in powering the daily operations of the city.
“I would say most cities are 1-2 percent,” says Andrew Brix, energy programs manager for the city of Ann Arbor.
However, there are those cities who are not pushing the renewable energy as hard as Ann Arbor. They include Grand Rapids, Taylor and Wayndotte.
