Red Hearts at the Arb – Cute or Disgusting?
OK. So today I’m taking my dog for a walk at the Arb and as I enter from the Geddes Road entrance. I see a red heart spray painted on the ground. Hmmm. First I think the paint actually looks like blood. Geez is this some kind of gory trick? No. I think it’s waterproof spray paint. Then I see more of the spray paint on some trees. Red hearts and arrows directing you down the wooden steps. I didn’t follow them, but on my way back I came up the steps to see how far the cute symbols of love would go.
Whoever did this probably thought is was acceptable, but now every time I walk down there I’ll have to look at these stupid red heats spray painted on the trees. Geez. If you’ve got to leave a trail to something at least have enough forethought to use something less permanent. I’d rather have to pick up some one’s trash then to have to be reminded of how selfish and thoughtless the person was who defaced mother nature in the Arb.
I ran across the Arb caretakers on the way out and they assured me it was not one of their new beautification projects or the latest way to mark trees to be cut down. The University of Michigan police are in charge of the Arb. If anyone would like to report the painters here’s the link UM Police.
