Stress Reduction Tips From Ann Arbor-based Focused Coaching Founder

Here are tips from Lisa Pasbjerg, Ann Arbor-based Focused Coaching founder, on how to prevent or cope with burnouts:
1. Make exercise a daily habit and eat properly. Be aware of the nutrition that your body is getting. “Adopt an elite athlete mind-set,” Pasbjerg said. “Train your body like you’re going to run a marathon each day.”
2. Sleep well. Sleep on the right time. You can try going to bed 15 minutes earlier. If you so not feel better after, go to bed for another 15 minutes earlier.
3. Converse with your colleagues on how you can combat stress and burnout. Surround yourself with people who can support you and appreciate you at work.
4. Remove the small things that causes you stress. Pasbjerg said that even as simple as removing the pop-ups in your computer can lessen your stress and will help you focus on the task that you must do.
5. Take some time off from your electronics. Set a certain time where you will turn off your mobile phone and computer and have some quiet time to yourself.
6. Start and end your day with positive things. As simple as using your favorite soap or shampoo will brighten your day. When evening comes, you can relax by listening to your favorite music or writing on your journal. “You’ll train your body to make that shift and be more relaxed,” Pasbjerg said. “The more you do it, the more your body moves into it. That’s why rituals are soothing.”
For bosses, look around and see what you can do to decrease the stress. “Often there are things they can do for next to nothing … and make things better,” such as changing the flicking overhead light that drives people nuts, Pasbjerg said.
