I just stopped by the old fashioned Ann Arbor barber shop, Varsity Barber, and met the owner Mike Bigelow.  Mike is a barber as well as James Price who works with Mike.  These guys are super friendly!  While I was talking to them locals who walked down the street were waving and saying hello.

This is a very down to earth place.  The two barbers offer hair cuts for $16 and it is only $14 for kids.  They have a hair cut chart on the big mirror that runs the length of the inside that shows many different styles of short hair for men, in case you want something different.

I asked them if they cut women’s hair and the reply is that they specialize in short haircuts.  So I think that answer is yes if you want a short haircut.  James Price also specializes in old fashioned straight razor shaves.  He’ll shave your head or your face for $16.

Mike said that the Varsity Barber Shop has been in this same location for over 1oo years, 105 E Liberty, Ann Arbor, MI. There have only been five owners and Mike is the fifth.  He purchased the business about five years ago.  There is the very cool rotating barber pole outside the shop. 

If you need a hair cut now and they are open, just walk right in.  No appointments are needed to get a great haircut from either Mike or James.  However, if you are a local and work in Downtown Ann Arbor, you just might be able to talk to Mike about a flexible arrangement for a shave and a haircut.
